A DJ's guide to Wakefield party venues

Wakefield parties happen in proper rooms: busy social clubs, pubs with real function spaces and a rugby league stadium that hires out its Club House. I'm a Huddersfield mobile DJ about half an hour away, so here's an honest run through the rooms, including the question to ask before any deposit: do you take 18ths?

Carlton Social Club

One of the busiest club rooms on the Wakefield side, with an air conditioned function room and regular live entertainment nights of its own. Clubs like this are some of the best value party rooms going, and a room that hosts acts every week means the basics a DJ needs are already there. As with any club, confirm the 18ths question with the steward first.

The Pledwick

A pub that does private venue hire properly, with exclusive use for your do rather than a roped-off corner. Exclusive use changes the whole feel of a party: your music, your crowd, nobody else's night to work around.

The Black Horse

A ground floor function room for 50 to 60 guests, which is the honest sweet spot for most family birthdays: big enough for a proper dance floor, small enough that the room never feels empty. Ground floor also means no lugging the buffet, the decorations or the DJ rig up a staircase.

The Club House at Wakefield Trinity

The rugby league club hires out The Club House on Doncaster Road for celebrations and parties, with stadium room hire for bigger dos. A party at the stadium is a talking point in itself, and venues built for match days are used to crowds, parking and late finishes.

The Holmfield Arms

A Greene King pub with flexible function rooms, the low-stress chain option: straightforward booking, food sorted in-house, and staff who host functions every week.

Hotels and the December question

The hotel function suites around Wakefield run packaged Christmas party nights through December, which is worth knowing both ways: brilliant if you want an all-in work do, but if you're booking a private party in December, ask early because hotel diaries fill with the party-night circuit. For a private December do, the clubs and pubs above hold their dates better.

Questions to ask any Wakefield party venue

Wakefield party FAQs

Which Wakefield venues take 18th birthday parties?

Ask every venue directly before you pay a deposit. Policies vary, they change, and some clubs are cautious about 18ths and 21sts while being brilliant for 40ths and 50ths. It's a thirty second phone call that saves a lost deposit.

Do you DJ parties in Wakefield?

Yes, Wakefield is about half an hour from me, so travel is built into the quote with no drama. Birthdays, christenings, engagements and work dos, in clubs, pubs and function suites.

How much does a party DJ cost in Wakefield?

It depends on the date, the hours and the venue. Send me what you're planning and I'll come back with a fixed, no-obligation quote within 24 hours.

Can you set up in a social club function room?

Yes, clubs and function rooms are bread and butter. I bring the full rig, sort the setup with the steward in advance, and scale the sound to the room so it fills the space without flattening the conversation at the bar.
